Review: Without Warning

What would happen if 99 percent of the United States population is suddenly destroyed? How would the rest of the world react to such a catastrophe? The year is 2003 and the United States military is preparing to invade Baghdad. The world is preparing for war. Before that war can begin, a mysterious “wave” appears over most of the continental U.S. as well as Canada and Mexico. All living things under the “wave” are no more.

I’ll have to admit that I was somewhat skeptical about another world disaster story when I started reading this book. But John Birmingham has envisioned an insightful and horrific scenario. The delicate relationships amongst the leading nations of the world are exposed when the world’s foremost super power is all but destroyed. Can the world survive such a disaster?

Without Warning is packed with action and suspense, the pages will fly through your fingers. Several plot lines explore the ramifications globally. The base qualities, both good and bad, of humanity are forced into the open as the world tried to overcome.

I strongly recommend this book to those that enjoy a good political or military thriller. It will not disappoint. I read this as part of the Early Reviewer program on Library Thing. I can't wait for the next two installments.
