Happy Birthday Dennis Lehane

I would like to wish author Dennis Lehane a happy birthday today. Lehane was born and raised in Dorchester, a neighborhood of Boston which serves as the locale for most of his novels. He is probably most known for his series of novels following investigators Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro. A Drink Before the War, the first novel in the series, won the 1995 Shamus Award for Best First P.I. Novel. The fourth book in the series, Gone Baby Gone, was made into a motion picture starring Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan. Mystic River was also made into a motion picture directed by Clint Eastwood. The novel won the Barry Award and the Anthony Award for Best Novel.

I was lucky enough to be able to read his historical fiction novel, The Given Day, before it was released as part of the Early Reviewers Group over at LibraryThing. I found the book amazing and recommend it to anyone that loves historical fiction.
