Katy Duck loves to dance. This duck enjoys dancing so much she dances in the rain, the wind, the sunshine, even the snow. Everything is going along quite smoothly for Katy until she learns that her mother has enrolled her in Mr. Tutu's School of Dance. Katy already knows how to dance.
Like the last book I reviewed on Daddy Daughter Day, this book is great for teaching. Katy has to overcome her shyness in order to participate in Mr. Tutu's dance class. At first she is very shy and doesn't want to dance with the other animals. But once she hears the music playing, she overcomes her fear and begins to dance.
The book is beautifully illustrated and I would say appeals more to a girl than it would a boy. Although at this age group, you can't rule anything out. I really enjoy reading this one with my daughter. One phrase is repeated throughout, "Tra-la-la. Quack, quack!". I try to say the "Quack, quack!" as fast as I can and then she has a blast trying to say it as well.
This is the first of five books in the series. Look for Katy Duck, Dance Star, Katy Duck is a Caterpillar, Katy Duck, Big Sister, and Katy Duck, Center Stage.
