This book was nearly impossible to put down. You are thrown immediately into the story and there is no way to escape. The characters are believable and interesting. I couldn’t stop at the end of a chapter, I had to keep going to find out what happened next. The psychological suspense made this book really enjoyable.
The overall atmosphere of the book contains a religious tone. It is not overpowering by any means. I found it refreshing to have characters that are of good moral fiber and not just the cookie cutter hero with the bad habits and attitude. In fact, one young character in the story faces up to his compulsion for telling lies to bring attention to himself and grows as a person throughout.
This was the first book I have read from Joe Ellis, but I will be reading both the prequel and sequel to this novel.
